MapQuest Ireland

MapQuest Ireland provides only maps, not driving directions. For driving directions, try AA route planner or Google maps.

• MapQuest Ireland provides a map of Ireland, and you can zoom down to street level in Dublin, Belfast, Cork and other places.

But MapQuest Ireland doesn't give you driving directions between locations, unlike MapQuest UK.

MapQuest Ireland doesn't have its own site, instead its part of europe.mapquest.com. A good site for driving directions, in place of MapQuest Ireland, is Google Maps. Google also gives you a map, but it gives you driving directions as well. You can even get directions between countries with Google Maps. For instance, try typing in London and Dublin and you get full directions, including the Holyhead ferry. 

So you should be able to plan journeys from Ireland to most places in Europe with Google maps. But type in New York and Dublin and you can't get a planned journey. This is a bit sad. It would be nice if Google could give you some shipping, flying and and car hire information.

Google maps also gives you mileages and journey times, even giving you the walking time between London and Dublin! It has the sense not to send you walking along motorways, but does send you down busy A roads. So best just use the walking option for short journeys along city streets.
